Good questions
Hinged, socketed, or fixed?
Hinged posts fold down for storage or mowing and are the common club-pitch choice. Socketed posts drop into a ground sleeve and lift out entirely, useful where a pitch is shared with other sports.
Fixed posts are permanently set, typical of a dedicated first-team pitch. Portable mini and micro posts are for training or age-grade pitches and don't need a fixed installation at all.
Aluminium or steel?
Aluminium posts are lighter and don't rust, at a higher price; steel is heavier and cheaper but needs a weatherproof finish to avoid corrosion. Both are used at every level from club to international grounds, the choice is mostly budget and whether the posts need to be moved often.
